EXPECTED IMPACT
From the various impacts that the current EU call identifies, the iLAND project will contribute indirectly to most of them. Direct contribution will be in the following ones:
- "Strengthening European scientific position and seizing new market opportunities thorug new services and applications"
- "More efficient, flexible, secure, safe and more productive large infrastructures"
- "Wider take up of radical new sensing and control paradigms in e.g. transport, health, facility and asset management"
Need for International Level Research
The results of iLAND will clearly benefit from taking a EU and part EU-USA consortium apporach. This brings in complementary research and technological skills from the different teams that will enrich and will definitely improve the quality of the outcome of iLAND.
Moreover, the involvement of some of the project participants in key standardization activities at European level is an important reason to give an Europan dimension to this project. The influence on standarditzation bodies and associated key European industries (e.g. automotive, home care) would be much lower if the activity were constrained to a single country.
All in all, it is estimated that the impact generated from an European-level and cross European/USA-level research will be, at least, doubled from the impact that a more narrow national-level research would achieve.
